Step One: Research Questions to Answer

· What is your business and how it is different compared to other businesses in the same sector?

· Define your SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats).

· Which markets do you plan to target?

· Who is your primary competition and how do they compare and differ from you?

· What are people willing to pay for what you’re offering them?

· How much will it cost for you to do business?

· How much will you be able to make?

SWOT is an analysis outline of all of your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats and risks. It will give you a total overview of the areas that you need to handle and address further in your business plan.

Strengths – What are your strengths? What are your strongest skills? What knowledge do you have that makes you the best model for this type of business? What do you do better than other organizations? Do you have any unique or low costs that others can’t? What do people see as your strengths in your market?

Weaknesses – What are your weaknesses? What are your weakest skills? What knowledge and skills do you need to work on to make your business successful?

Opportunities – What current opportunities make your business worth it? What opportunities are you able to recognize or spot? What trends are you aware of?

Threats – What threats could affect your business? What obstacles do your currently face? What are your competitors currently doing? Do you have any cash-flow or bad debt problems? Could any of your weaknesses threaten your business? Are any technological changes threatening your business?
